I was recently put on Celexa for anxiety and depression. Something in the back of my mind tells me to get off of it. I’m 19, and I keep thinking, “We don’t know enough about brain chemistry yet. Get off of this.”
Should I ask to be taken off of it and try a better diet, exercise, and other methods? Am I just paranoid?
I was first put on Celexa when I got back from college. I had to take a one-way bus ticket home during my second year cuz stuff had gotten so bad that I just couldn’t take it anymore. That was back in 1999 when I had both depression and anxiety. Now it basically just horribly bad anxiety.
Celexa is a powerful drug and soon it was clear that it was making me too drowsy to perform normal tasks, like my job at the time. Most doctors will work with you if you tell them you don’t think the drug is doing its job.
But if you’ve really got bad depression and anxiety, please don’t think that a better diet, exercise or maybe alternative medicine is going to take a drug’s place. Yes, there is a lot we don’t know about the long-term effects of these drugs, but they do the job. Better diet and exercise will certainly help, but , in my opinion, I would tell your doctor that you’d rather be put on something else.
Increased anxiety after quitting smoking / changing jobs after 16 years / having a newborn?
I know there isn’t a quick fix but i’m willing to do whatever to feel okay again.
Any clue how i can beat this?
Great tips in the previous comment. Also, try laying off caffeine (if you drink coffee or soda) for awhile– or at least cutting back from your normal consumption. Caffeine can be a culprit for feeding anxiety attacks.
You have had some crazy life changes, so it sounds like your body is rebelling.
Know that things will settle down soon as you move into a new routine.
Please help me with Driving Test anxiety / nerves.?
I have my driving test soon. Have failed it 4 times due to nerves.
I have taken rescue remedy, and it does help a bit. But as soon as i get to the test centre, anxiety completly takes over. lol.
Really need advice and tips on staying calm, and not letting my anxiety take over.
You should be confident, really confident. Almost cocky. You will kick that test, you will dominate that test, that test is nothing, that test is easy. Look at how many bad drivers there are, and lok how good you drive. Surely, if they can get a license then you can asl well.
