Is there an anxiety medication that my doctor can presribe to be used only occasionally when needed?
I don’t think I have a serious anxiety disorder because I only feel anxious to where it affects my life about every two weeks or so, sometimes more and sometimes less. I get an episode, and it is always provoked my something, usually something that should not be provoking this much anxiety. During the episode I get stomach aches, feel nauseous, get chills, and tremble, and have insomnia. This lasts for varying amounts of time ranging from 1 hour to 4 hours. Sometimes I get anxious stomach aches for days though, without the other symptoms. I feel that a occasional pill to use during these acute attacks would be helpful, but I don’t know if that is how they are prescribed or if they even work quickly with occasional use.
Can anyone give me some advice? I’m afraid that when I tell by doctor, she will say that everyone gets anxiety and there is nothing she can give me, but I think my anxiety is definitely more severe than most peoples.
honestly, in my opinion you should take something every morning if panic is common in you. isnt it better to prevent the panic than to have the panic, and then have to wait for medication to kick in?
its not fun having panic attacks and then being sick from the stress that they cause.
so just take something every morning when you wake up and you will be fine.

Hi Sunshine,
If you have been diagnosed with social anxiety (I’m assuming you have), then you should be speaking with the doctor who diagnosed you.
Also, you should get help because quite literally, the sooner, the better. Left unattended, anxiety disorders can get worse and even to the point where your quality of life is extremely poor.
The problem with mental issues (and it’s not just your parents), is that it’s not given as much proper attention or taken seriously by the general public. People feel sorry for you if you’re in a wheelchair, but if you have a mental concern, it’s viewed as “not real, or that it’s made up, or you’re pretending”. The fact is, if any part of your body can be diseased, then so can your mind. That’s why there are psychiatrists and psychologists, otherwise, why would we need them?
Bottom line – please mention it to your doctor and get help. As for the pills, there are homeopathic/herbal remedies that you can certainly try (and hypnosis). Sometimes, they’re more affordable than drugs. Perhaps if your doctor confirms you have social anxiety, your folks may sit up and take notice. Whatever happens, realize that you can get help for this. You can always work around a problem to solve it. Stay positive!
